PALLADIO, Andrea (1508-1580) - Architettura - [solo primi 3 tomi]. Venice: Angelo Pasinelli, 1740-41. The first 3 volumes of this monumental 18th-century edition of Palladio. 3 tomes in 2 volumes, elephant folio (442 x 300mm). Double titles for each tome in English and French printed in red and black with large engraved vignettes, large folding sheet inserted with "Index of cities, castles and villas" dated 1739, in the second tome 7 engravings numbered I-VII, in the third volume 4 folding tables, a total of 173 engraved plates on 155 sheets (some are missing in the sequential numbering - please contact the department for a detailed list), large engraved head-and-tail pieces and decorated initials, woodcut initials (some dampastaining heavier at the end of vol. I and at the beginning and end of vol. II where it also causes some small loss, a few plates about to come loose). Contemporary mottled calf, gilt title on spine labels , red speckled edges, marbled endpapers (somewhat worn). Being only the first 3 volumes of the work the lot is sold as not subject to return.
