To meet the requirements of the growing demand of collectors of works on paper, in 2018 the auction house opened the Old Master Drawings and Engravings department.
Sketches, preparatory drawings, elaborate works made in pen and ink, pencil, chalk, watercolor and other techniques that investigate the most intimate, personal and instinctive side of the creative impetus of the great masters, are the subject of a careful selection by the specialists in order to offer enthusiasts the best that comes to market. The department aims to offer the names of great Italian masters, among the many already present in the catalogue: Giacomo Cavedone, Giulio Cesare Procaccini, Lo Stradano, Giovanni Battista Foggini and Il Baciccio.
Work on paper is particularly charismatic as it contains the germ of the idea and the creative imprint in its immediate and instinctive expression. For this reason, the interest in sketches, drawings, gouache is constantly growing, and thus, the department put all its efforts into creating a catalogue with a vast repertoire of techniques - pencil, chalk, sanguine, pen and watercolour. Works for sophisticated collectors, new to the market.
