MACCIO, Paolo (c. 1570-1640) - Emblemata. Bologna: Clemente Ferroni, 1628. The engraved title and 26 of the emblems were engraved by Giovanni Battista Coriolano (c.1587-1649), a pupil of G. L. Valesio. The dedicatory plate and 52 of the emblems are the work of Oliviero Gatti, also a disciple of Valesio. The remaining plates were engraved by Agostino Parisini after designs by Florio Maccio, a pupil of Lodovico Carracci. The subjects are original, varied and often show aspects of contemporary life. Cicognara 1913; Landwehr Romanic, 496; Praz, pp. 101-102. 4to (188 x 135mm). Engraved title within frame and signed by Corio, 82 engravings in the text of which 81 are of emblems and one of a dedication to the Madonna (some soiling, heavier on title where the ownership inscription has been erased, Z1-Z4 reinforced at the outer margin, some other small restorations and some staining). Contemporary vellum, manuscript title on spine, edges partlially blue (some small wormholes).
