[LEGATURA ANDREOLI - ROSPIGLIOSI] - Missale Romanum. Ex Decreto Sacrosancti Concilii Tridentini Restitutum. [LEGATO CON:] - Missae proprium festorum ordinis fratrum minorum (1663). Rome: Camera Apostolica, 1662. A fine binding referable to the workshop of the Andreoli brothers in the Rospigliosi style by Cardinal Giulio Rospigliosi who became Pope with the name of Clement IX. The binding was made for the Franciscan order with the emblems of San Francesco and Santa Chiara in the center and the text of the Order's own mass. The illustrations accompanying the missal are the work of Lazarus Baldus, Stephen Picart, Guglielmo Cortese and others. . Folio (405 x 270mm). Engraved frontispiece, large vignette on title, 16 (of 17) full-page illustrations, 17 pages within richly decorated engraved borders, 10 half-page engravings, text in red and black, woodcut initials and enngraved headpieces, music notes (lacking leaf aa4 with an illustrations, leaves T6-V5 with reinforcements at lower edges and in the margins with small wormtrack, small tears, mostly repaired and one with small loss to upper margin of plate, some occasional staining and ligh foxing). Splendid contemporary morocco, spine richly decorated in gilt, plates framed by a double geometric and floral border with the emblem of St. Francis receiving the stigmata in the center of the plate, on the reverse Santa Chiara holding the Eucharist and the Pastoral, both within frames supported by winged cherubs (in good conditions, with skilful restorations at the joints and extremities).
