A lot dedicated to Italian and Austrian scientific expeditions: a good copy of the report of the Austrian scientific expedition around the globe which lasted more than two years (from 30 April 1857 to 26 August 1859) and collected a large amount of scientific data together with 23,700 artifacts including over 9,000 insects and 550 tribal objects. In open challenge to the Austrian counterpart, who had named the Novara ship in memory of the Piedmontese defeat of 1849, the Italian Navy financed the expedition of the "Magenta" 6 years later, a name that honored the famous victory of 1859. The expedition was the first in which an Italian ship circumnavigated the globe and was the occasion, as well as to collect numerous scientific data, to establish and conclude numerous embassies in Japan and China. . 3 volumes, 4to (250 x 170mm).
