IVES, Edward (XVIII secolo) - A Voyage from England to India, in the Year MDCCLIV..also a Journey from Persia to England by an unusual route. London: Edward and Charles Dilly, 1773. Scarce travel account by Edward Ives, surgeon on the ship Kent of the British Navy who returned home crossing Mesopotamia. Among the interesting customs descriptions is that of the Indian "towers of silence" where the corpses were exposed to atmospheric agents and birds of prey to favor their decomposition. 3 parts in one volume, 4to (290 x 230mm). 2 folding maps, 13 engraved plates, partially unopend, uncut, good internal conditions. Original paper boards with 19th-century spine label (few stains and light wear, weak binding). Provenance: Giuseppe Orlando (ex libris).
