CHAMBON M. (XVIII secolo) - Traité général du commerce de l'Amérique. Amsterdam: Marc-Michel Rey, 1783. A study copy in fine binding of this important treatise which analyzes in detail the trade between France and the Atlantic colonies, Canada, Louisiana and the Antilles. The author then describes in detail the slave trade on the Guinean coasts providing not only data, but describing in detail the diplomatic and commercial practice and uses to be held with local populations. An excellent repertoire of data for studying the colonial economy of the late 18th century. . 2 volumes, 4to (257 x 195mm). 9 maps, some folding (of 10, the map of North America, usually present in two copies, is here present only at the beginning of vol. II), 12 plates of local costumes (lacking A1 in vol. I with the introduction, some spotting and some browning). Contemporary calf, gilt title on spine label, marbled covers, red speckled edges (some wear). (2)
