PLINIO, Gaio Secondo (23-79 d.C.) - Naturalis historiae libri triginta septem. Venice: Geronimo Scoto, 1571. An interesting 16th-century edition of Pliny's renown Natural History, a vast 37-volume encyclopedia dealing with geography, anthropology, zoology, botany, medicine, mineralogy, metalworking and art history. 2 parts in one volume, folio (325 x 223mm). Printer's device on titles, another printer's device at the end of the first part, woodcut headpieces and initials (some spotting and occasional browning). Contemporary boards with the 'negative' of a 12th-century musical manuscript, manuscript title to lower edge, remains of laces (a little rubbed and with some wear). Provenance: Robustelli? (ownership note dated 1707) - Joseph Antony Stappani (ownership note dated 1719) - Petri Angeli Lavizzani (ownership note dated 1804) - Piero? (modern private stamp).
