[ECONOMIA] - PAGNINI, Giovanni Francesco (1714-1789) - Della decima e di varie altre gravezze imposte dal comune di Firenze della moneta e della mercatura de' Fiorentini fino al secolo XVI. Lisbon and Lucca [but Florence: Giuseppe Bouchard librajo in Firenze editore], 1765-66. A rare work, difficult to fibe found complete with the last two volumes, of one of the first economic history treatises dedicated to the Middle Ages and specifically to Florence. The author, who was the finance minister of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, was also Chancellor of the Decime and director of the Rifondazioni's archive from where he drew the large amount of information he organized in this essay. The first two volumes are devoted to an extensive study of the Florentine taxation system from its origins to the early Renaissance with many chapters focusing on the study of prices in medieval Florence compared with current values. The third volume is dedicated to the work "Pratica della mercatura" by Francesco Balducci Pegolotti (1290-1347) and the fourth volume to "Della mercatura" by Giovanni Antonio da Uzzano (1420-1445) both published here for the first time and edited on the Codes of the Ricciardiana Library (Einaudi 4256 - Sraffa 4470) . 4 volumes, 4to (273 x 205mm). 5 folding tables in the first volume, one plate in the third volume (some browning, some sporadic stains). Contemporary half vellum, gilt title on the spine, marbled paper boards, red cuts (boards and slightly worn labels). (4)
