The auction season at Palazzo Crivelli will open in October with the sale of Furniture, Drawings and Old Master Paintings, Silver, Musical Intruments, Historia, Carpets and Textiles.
The antique drawings include a rare and exceptionally skillful collection of 104 drawings and designs for lace and embroidery, made between 1625 and 1640, (estimate € 28.000-30.000). A charcoal drawing depicting the The Mariage of Merope and Polyphontes made by Gabriel Jacques de Saint-Aubin (estimate € 22.000-24.000), a Portrait of a Child with Dog by Stefano della Bella and the Birth of St. John the Baptist in pen and ink by Giacomo Cavedone (estimate € 8.000-10.000).
Refined and sought after are also the works of Gaetano Gandolfi, Jan Var der Straet, Jacopo Negretti and Pier Francesco Mazzucchelli.
The auction also features important contributions of noble origin such as the section counting over 60 lots from the Milanese family Doria and Visconti di Modrone, among which there is an important table service in silver, with refined engravings of the family crests (estimate € 20.000-22.000), offered on occasion of the marriage between the Marquis Andrea Doria and the noblewoman Marina Visconti di Modrone.
Also worthy of note is an ebonized wooden travel coin-cabinet (estimate € 1.200-1.400), with silver applications dating back to the late 17th century, and a 19th century Sicilian tortoiseshell cabinet with a gilt-etched interior (€ 2.800- 3.200).
The catalogue is also enriched by a pair of 18th century Piedmontese wall tables in carved and lacquered wood with a lumachella stone top (estimate € 5.000-6.000), two 19th century ebonized Moorish wooden figures signed "Testolini Venezia" (estimate € 2.200-2.400), two busts in biscuit by Filippo Tagliolini, furniture with French stamps, a chinoiserie double-dome bureau of the 18th century and a selection of musical instruments, among which a violin of Romeo Antoniazzi school in excellent conditions (estimate € 1.700-2.000).
For the gourmand, a gem of the most prized French and international cuisine will go under the hammer: a presse-canard marked Elkington Plate (England, early 20th century).
The "canine" art collection, that will go under the hammer on 26 October, consists of about 80 lots, including paintings and sculptures representing dogs of every breed, made between the 18th and 20th centuries in Italy, England and France.
Among the antique paintings there are two works of great quality with the same scene taken from the Passion of Christ: The Christ Carrying the Cross one of the circle of Antonello da Messina probably dating to the years just after his death (1479) (estimate € 40.000-50.000) and one from the Lombard area, attributable to the sensitivity of Daniele Crespi (estimate € 8.000-10.000). The catalogue also presents an Ecce Homo, which could be the first work to be signed by the son of Paris Bordon, Giovanni (doc.1582 - 1613) (estimate € 16.000-18.000). From the Veneto area a gold-ground Madonna with Child, attributed to the workshop of Zanino di Pietro (active between 1389 and 1437) (estimate € 18.000-20.000) and the beautiful portrait of engineer Bartolomeo Ferracina by Alessandro Longhi (Venice 1733 - 1813). As for the Genoese area, we can point out Joseph Interprets the Dreams by Giovan Battista Langetti (estimate € 22.000-24.000) and Santa Apollonia by Valerio Castello.
Among the lots in the historical-military context, of exceptional importance is the gold and enamel key produced by Turner & Simpson of Birmingham in 1936, executed for His Majesty King Edward VIII (estimate € 10.000-11.000), large bronze bust depicting Emperor Napoleon I, dated 1885 and bearing the signature of the sculptor Lorenzo Colombo (estimate € 1.400-1.500), seven medallions with miniatures on ivory, a 40s cigarette case autographed by Benito Mussolini, Amedeo di Savoia, Pietro Badoglio, Italo Balbo, Rodolfo Graziani, Giuseppe Daodiace, Guglielmo Nasi and Luigi Frusci (estimate € 500-550). On sale also a precious 17th century Flemish tapestry (estimate € 8.000-10.000), a very rare Persian Senneh of fine quality dating to the 19th century (estimate € 2.200-2.400) and sets of household linen and bed linen belonging to the descendants of the Milanese ducal family of the Visconti, every single piece embroidered with the family crest.
